Our campaign to fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is off to an incredible start. Already, fifteen thousand of us have made phone calls, and we're about to begin airing hard-hitting TV and radio ads across the country, demanding that Rumsfeld be fired.
Now there's a great way you personally can take a leadership role in this campaign.
Next Wednesday, May 26th, at 12:30 P.M., we're holding in-person meetings with dozens of Senators' and Representatives' offices, including yours, urging them to use their power to fire Rumsfeld.
i'm sorry, maybe trying to run clinton out of office over a political grudge is a little too fresh in my mind, but what will firing rumsfeld change? seems to me that, for what the administration wants to accomplish, rummy is supremely competent. fucking don't vote bush. that's how to fire rumsfeld.

It's supremely ironic.
But I think you can make a good case for Rumsfeld being fired. Chalabi told his department that if we could knock Saddam out quickly, everything else would fall into place. Who believed him and then sent in a relatively small, relatively underequipped fighting force that is now forced to do insane shit like try to "pacify" Fallujah?
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. But on the somethingawful forums, there was a fucking fundraising drive to buy soldiers better armor. What is wrong with this picture?
That's actually not the first time i've heard of that...I remember reading somewhere that the monies that were originally designated to buy kevlar armor for our infantry were spent on something frivolous, like a new hat for Rummy, or something like that. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but it was something wholly unnecessary.
so the arguement is that cabinent members should take responsibility for their actions and decisions. this is a good point. there's not a longstanding precedent for it, as janet reno demonstrated after a string of vile military-style operations on u.s. soil. in fact, if that defense hasn't been made yet, i'm sure righties will start making it soon. waco was as bad (if not worse, since it was the constitution that got beshat upon), than the current scandal in iraq, and there was never a severe question of reno's survivability.
and there's something curiously feudal about soldier's buying their own equipment, and using ak-47s taken off the bodies of dead iraqis. like they should get a percentage of the revenue generated by the occupation. and paul bremer should be wearing a crown of bones.
Clearly the U.S. military has taken the "video game as training device" theory to a new level. Now, just like in the games, you get better weapons and armor by picking them off fallen foes. Get hurt? Just look for a floating med pack somewhere in the level, er, village.
