Godless Sims

A kind of poorly-written article on religion in video games -- interesting quotes from Will Wright, Sid Meier, and Richard Garriott, though. Be sure to have a clean set of underpants at the ready, Haddock.

God damnit, klimas, you beat me to it. I just finished reading that article myself. I find it interesting that will wright had anything to do with it, considering he's never had a game that really involved religion. I mean, you couldn't build churches in sim city, could you? I can't remember.

Come to think of it, i don't remember early versions of Civilization having religion as a major point, either. Clearly they should've gotten john romero in there, to discuss the use of upside-down crosses, and other "edgy" religious iconography.

religion remains the most retarded thing about civilization. when you begin to conquer enemy territory, one of the first structures that needs to be built is a temple (thereby creating a 'culture bubble' around the city to prevent an internal revolution). i mean, seriously yo.

you never build political facilities in that game, only religious, cultural and corporate. why should i waste my time building a fucking bank, when i could be building a goddamn a command center, or a ministry of occupation or something? perhaps a better question is, why should i build a temple to keep conquered citizens happy, when i could just as easily offer not to stab their throats to keep them happy?
