Did anybody watch Bush's address last night? The
Washington Post makes it sound a bit ominous:
Surrounding himself with uniformed soldiers and standing before a backdrop emblazoned with American flags, Bush portrayed the two-year-old war in Iraq as the logical extension of a larger struggle that began when hijackers slammed passenger jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001...
Notably, at a time when military recruiting has suffered, Bush made his first direct pitch to young Americans to enlist.
The military was
none too pleased either:
The sole supportive interruption followed a sequence in which Bush built to the line, "We will stay in the fight until the fight is won." NBC's Kelly O'Connell, reporting from Fort Bragg, told Williams afterward that the applause appeared to have been "triggered by members of the president's advance team" and that once they began clapping, the soldiers joined in...
Two soldiers' wives interviewed said they were prepared for the war to last 10 or 12 years...

Good to see he's not trying to connect 9/11 and Iraq again. Oh, wait, he did! Whoops!
And yeah, even Rumsfeld said the other day that we were looking at a 6-12 year stay in Iraq. Though, apprently, 12 years is still considered the "last throes" of the insurgency...
