there is a type of virus, i've heard, that gets on your computer, nestles in somewhere near your address book, and starts pumping out spam-ish type messages from your email account to everyone it can find in your system. true? false? type? redstar, which has like four registered accounts, is hitting me up with bullshit from 'webmaster' and 'accounts' at redstarkgb.com. i assume this means one of those four computers got shit on it, but i'm not sure where to start (besides rimming feez and klemis).

i run a p.c. eeen at work, too, i believe. eeen says he's not getting any of the messages, and i know that fishel and i are. would that suggest eeen's work computer as the culprit?
Only if een's computer has a stealable address book. Although it could also be stealing addresses out of your cache, that's usually much more rare. I'm inclined to agree with een in that it's hiding on the mail server. That is, if you guys are running your own mail server.
Next time you get one of those bogus e-mails, bounce it to me at jfeeser3@jhu.edu, and i'll see if i can pull something out of the headers to see where it's coming from...
Redstar is hosted through dreamhost, right? They're Linux based, and as such aren't vulnerable to Exchange viruses.
My money's on it being some random unwitting person spraying viruses over the Internet. A lot of viruses spoof common/scary accounts at the recipient's domain name. i.e. I've gotten crap from accounts@gmail.com. I agree with feezer: headers will reveal all.
