A Double Whammy

Doug Flutie is still playing football and the dropkick is still legal! Who knew?

Not to sound like a foot-tard, but i was kindof confused about this over the weekend...i'm assuming they're referring to it being illegal only as it pertains to using it for a field goal / extra point kick? I mean, isn't a drop-kick essentially what the kicker does every time there's a punt?

Au contraire, foot-tard. In the dropkick, the ball actually has to make contact with the ground before being kicked; that's why it went out of style, because our modern "wierd" shaped footballs don't always bounce the way they are supposed to.

Huh. I wonder what possesed him to do it...something he'd been practicing? Or just a hillarious "fuck you" to the dolphins?

it was a relatively hilarious 'fuck you' to the dolphins. if you happened to see it in the game, you would have witnessed something priceless. they snap the ball to flutie, who drop kicks it through the uprights. the dolphins secondary stands there, watching the ball go, unable to comprehend what has happened. the patriots, who clearly rehearsed this or something, start going apeshit, jumping all over flutie, who is likely retiring at the end of this year. in addition, i think it was also a gift to flutie (a new england sports hero, back to his college days) from coach belichek, who actually fucking smiled as that play went down.

Yeah, it was pretty awesome to see. The Dolphins just had no fucking clue what the hell was happening. Now, if they pull it out during the playoffs, that'll be real chutzpah.
