I'm using Samba to share out my mp3/ directory, which was awesome insofar as it took like two commands and three config file lines. There's a trick to automounting stuff in OS X -- then in iTunes you can set your library location to the remote server. The cool part is it'll sync to my iPod too.
It's a bad idea to expose smb to the interweb, right?

Interesting. Makes me wish i had a mac to try it out with.
On a related note, i should be taking my Apple Help Desk Certification test tomorrow...wish me luck!
Even better is if i can get that working under *nix too, i can set up just one file server for everyone in my new office....
