Yeah, i noticed that after taking it out of the packaging...i'm not sure either of the ibooks i have do either. I may just have to convince them to buy me a new powerbook :)
Seriously, though, there's something about a unix-based OS (i've been wanting to learn unix/linux for a while) that never crashes that's just...appealing.
The only thing i really do that's PC-Specific is game anyhow.
That's what i thought. I've been trying to pick out a mac laptop that's powerful enough for me to want to use/learn mac on without yanking my hair out over speed, while having it cheap enough that the department will be willing to pay for it. So far i've been looking at a cheapo ibook G4....$1000. I think i can slip that through the budget...
yep, learn mac. I mean, learn mac support. Like, the back-end stuff. One of the deans (who has an imac g5...one of the silliest looking computers i've ever seen), had a system-wang today, and i had a lot of trouble figuring out how to fix it. So, i figure, get a mac, break it, and fool around with the insides.
I guess the silly part is the giant white rectangle with the apple logo on the bottom of it. i know they needed the space for more parts, but it just seems like an odd design choice.
And yes, the G4 looked completely ridiculous.
As for the wang, the dean booted his computer, and it complained that he didn't have a system drive. We booted the system off a system install done on an IPOD (don't ask), and discovered that yes, his hard drive was still there, yes, his hard drive was functioning, but it decided it didn't want a partition table anymore. So basically the drive was intact, all the data was still on it, but he has no way to access it.
I want to learn, but i need a mac to "practice" on. The laptop i was looking at getting is 1400, which is a far cry from the 2500 we just spent on a laptop for one of the deans, so hopefully i can get this one done.
1. for those of you predicting a constructive contribution to this conversation, you are both wrong and fundamentally unfamiliar with me as a human being.
2. i haven't done the research, but we haven't topped 10 comments on a single post in a good while now. studying the records may or may not vindicate me, but i have a hunch that the last super-string of comments was a blow-tarded techno-jerk like this one. in response to future posts like these, we can dispense with the endless formalities and simply reference the necessary themes.

1. What's the difference between an "ibook" and a "powerbook"? Is it just a performance difference?
