It's gonna be a great year for movies....

From Neowin:

"The Rock will not play the central role in the forthcoming Doom movie, id Software reps confirmed over the weekend, although it's possible that he will figure in some way. Speaking at QuakeCon during a Q&A session, id staff commented on recent reports concerning Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock's involvement, which originated with UK film magazine Empire.

According to reps, he will not play Doomguy, but it is possible that he could take on the role of a Sergeant if he does come on board - although, as reported at the time, that all depends on whether the John Woo-helmed adaptation of the Spy-Hunter game is pushed back or not.

id reps also confirmed that the movie script is almost finished, but very little other work has been done yet."

troubling pieces of information in ryoga's recent post, ranked by order of fuck:

1. spyhunter movie
2. gathering of people under the banner QuakeCon
3. 'dwayne johnson aka the rock' now a noun
4. character named 'doomguy'
5. movie script 'almost finished;' casting clearly well on its way.

I think i'd switch the order around a bit. The "Doomguy" one should go last, since the doom character has never had a name. He's always been called "Doomguy". That, and i think the "Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock" thing should be bumped up higher on the list.

Other than that, i agree with your analysis.

huh. never had a name (which suggests he's hardly a shell of a character to begin with), yet they're making a movie? you're right, that fuck is placed wrong: it should clearly be second.

Shit. I guess you've got a point there. Then again, i can pretty much guarantee that it won't be worse than "Aliens Versus Predator".

I think we're ignoring the critical fact that John Woo is tackling "Spy Hunter," which had even less of a plot than Doom, and that's saying a lot.

at least 'spy hunter's' title implies a plot: right off the bat, you got a guy that hunts spies. throw in some cars that shoot bullets, helicopters that bomb highways and some hidden boat level that i never got to and *bam* movie magic.

Ryoga said...

Isn't the boat level like, 10 minutes into the game?

Either way, the movie's soundtrack better be composed entirely of variations of the "Peter Gunn Theme", or i'm going to be sorely disappointed.

I've got blogger blue-balls. I saw that Uwe Boll had posted a trailer for Alone in the Dark, but by the time I tried to download the whole thing, he took it down.
