Yeah, that logo's gonna get changed. Blogger has been better lately, but it would suffer from long stretches of downtime, half the time you could post, but not post comments, a lot of the time it just didn't work. So i figured i'd try throwing up something that we have complete control over. It's more flexible, and has a ton more in the way of customization. Also, we don't have to send out invites, so anyone can sign up that wants to without having to submit an e-mail address and get invited, and all that.
I figured it'd be worth a shot. Give it a whirl, see what you think.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
Postscript: Can anyone photoshop up a cool logo for the jerk store? Text on blogger, or the vbulletin logo on the test site just ain't cutting it.
dislike sterile new environment. the jerkstore classic at least has an element of presentability to it, and can always be dramatically reformatted (see: AFCINS) if the same-old/same-old has you down.
Well, the new environment can be re-tooled to our tastes, it just hasn't been done yet. That was kindof the idea of fooling with it.
Also, AFCINS was hideous.
Ian, It can be whatever dimensions we want, but i don't think any bigger than the existing one would be a good idea....
Here's my dos pesos: the real question w/ vbulletin is whether it's overkill. I can safely spend 2.5 minutes posting or commenting here and not feel too guilty about it, since if I smoked I'd probably waste even more time au travail. A real message board feels like slacking off.
On the other hand, it would be nice if stuff didn't fall off the front page quite so quickly. And if we wanted to expand this beyond our current circle it would make more sense, too, since I think we're about at the right number for a single blog.
Anyway, it seems like Blogger has gotten their shit together as of late. It seems kind of nice that they've added image uploading too.
Those were two of the main ideas i wanted to check out a new system. It seems like most threads die in less than a day, since they fall off the top "page and a half" of the blog and no one goes back to look at them.
Also, i wouldn't mind getting more people on here, and make it a community kind of thing...invite the philly people, friends of friends, etc.
I don't think VB is necessarily overkill, so much as just an alternative way of doing things.
As for slacking off, well, that's a pretty good percentage of what i do anyway.
If you go to the board and it looks funny, it's because I'm screwing around with the CSS. Just ignore it.

Nice try, Klimtard. This stuff is all managed through their stupid back-end, so the DOM inspector is about as useful as Fishel's penis trying to pleasure a woman.

So what, you don't edit a css file? That's pretty weak.
p.s. Feezer, look in your httpd.conf for a section entitled Options. Delete the thing that says Indexes.
I think you can edit the CSS file directly, but as this whole shebang is on Feez's computer, I'm just getting it through the back-end.

if you think more people want to read the shit we post, you're dead wrong. we have invited more people in the past (note graveyard at side of blog), but no one participates. why? because the shit we post about is relevant to 6 people at the most. i don't think an expanded community is a convincing enough arguement to pack it in, personally.
And, not to overlook the fact that the whole thing is hosted on one of your computers, which have a notoriously bad stability record. Not much fun if we can't access the site because another one of your harddrives melted.
Well, it's up on my desktop right now...if all goes well, it can very easily be picked up and moved to another computer.
Yep. Being able to get notified for posts is pretty fantabulous. Even better is the fact that if a new comment is placed on an old post, it bumps that post to the top of the list. Seems like a minute thing, but one of the best.
